Test Solutions for the Automotive Market

June 28,2019,Philippines—From rapid technological advancements to the changing nature of consumer demands—there are plenty of factors contributing to the fierce competition within the global manufacturing industry. The competition in the automotive market, in particular, is one of the most aggressive as it is one of the largest markets in global manufacturing. This is why it is more than necessary for auto manufacturers to continuously come up with innovative car designs and ensure its quality before putting it out to the market.

That said, conducting a series of automotive tests is a required process in automotive manufacturing. Such tests help auto manufacturers confirm their car capabilities as well as figure out which improvements must be made in order to give their products an edge in the market. Moreover, it ensures the safety and reliability of the final product.

Here are some key test solutions that help manufacturers survive and thrive in the competitive automotive market.

Climate testing

There are various factors that shorten the lifespan of an automobile, and one of those is environmental conditions. A key design consideration, it is necessary for auto manufacturers to know how a vehicle would react to extreme environmental conditions such as low and high temperatures, pressure, humidity, and more, and see if their vehicle can withstand such conditions or if it needs any adjustment.

In climate testing, the quality and performance of the vehicle are tested by exposing it to a diverse set of environmental conditions—from humid coastal locations to windy cold places.

Vibration testing

Vibrations occur in all forms of transportation. However, even though it seems to be a natural phenomenon for running vehicles of all types, along with shocks, it can have a profound effect on their long term performance and reliability. For vibration test solutions, vehicles will be subjected to the replication of cumulative forces experienced over years of driving, with the goal of seeing how long can they withstand constant erratic movements.

This helps manufacturers identify the vehicle’s weak points when subjected to vibrations or shocks, and come up with solutions that would strengthen the durability of the vehicle.

Crash testing

There are tons of crash testing videos on the Internet, making it one of the most popular test solutions in the automotive market. A form of destructive testing, crash testing is performed to ensure the safe design standards in crashworthiness, or the ability of the vehicle to protect its occupants during an impact, and crash compatibility, or the tendency of the vehicle to inflict more damage on another vehicle in two or multiple car crashes.

This type of test requires a high-speed camera to record the crash to allow manufacturers to review the event at normal speed and in slow motion, as well as see in the close up the effect of the crash on the dummy occupant. Although this seems like a disturbing test especially to regular people, it is helpful in preventing worst-case scenarios that people may encounter while driving.

Mechanical testing

There are also mechanical test solutions that aim to check the quality and performance of automotive engines and other car components. Along with examining the vehicle engine performance, mechanical testing also includes leak detection, stress tests, and more.

Additionally, data that will be gathered from this test will help manufacturers to come up with more efficient car systems. This is beneficial not only for the improvement of their current vehicles but also for their future projects, especially now that the automotive market is pushing for more efficient car systems for the future.

The automotive market can be assured that the majority, if not all, of EMS company in the Philippines, and other countries around the world as well, conduct complete tests on their vehicles before putting them out in the market.
