#IMIStories: Purpose

There’s nothing like a crisis to help you find your purpose. Ralph Micky A. Batonero, a Human Resource Business Partner for IMI, realized this during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is his story.

At the onset of the pandemic, I realized the real essence of my job as an HR practitioner. During the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), we worked long into the night to ensure that our employees could report to work.

My colleagues and I focused on three things: transportation, stay-in accommodations, and on-site reporting. These three factors were crucial in keeping our colleagues productive and comfortable.

For transportation, we had to map out the time and location of different pick-up points--all while considering many checkpoints. We had to entertain phone calls about the late arrival of our shuttle buses.

For stay-in accommodations, we started from scratch. We had to provide bed linens, basic toiletries, and other amenities for all our employees who would be staying in our factories to keep operations running.

For reporting on-site, we had to make sure that we provided the needs of our stay-in employees. That is why I decided to report to work. The main responsibility of the Human Resources Department is to nurture the company’s most valuable asset--its people.

With God’s grace, everything was executed smoothly. A lot of resources, details, and people came together to make it all happen. I am thankful for my HR colleagues who volunteered. I feel so blessed that the stay-in employees appreciated all our efforts.

I know I truly belong in IMI. This is where I discovered that my heart is for the people and I will serve them whatever the situation.” -- Ralph Micky A. Batonero, HR Business Partner

This task force must ensure the proper implementation of our protocols. On top of this, I am also supporting one of our sites with a higher headcount. This truly shows that the management trusts me, and I am honored to be of service.

I want to thank IMI for this opportunity. Every decision I make is guided by IMI’s core values: integrity, excellence, customer focus, and concern for others. I know I truly belong in IMI. This is where I discovered that my heart is for the people and I will serve them whatever the situation.
